The California Red won the 2019 BDAA National Second Dwelling design award. It’s a single level, 2 bed, self-contained house with open plan living, extending the home to outdoor decking areas. The design maximises the 60sqm footprint with no wasted space, and features design elements such as high raked ceilings, high level louvre windows, sliding doors to create airflow and breeze.

The client’s brief was to construct a second dwelling that could serve a multi-purpose function (a teenage/adult retreat that could also become an Airbnb or rental which is allowable in NSW). As it turns out the clients enjoyed it so much, they now occupy the second dwelling instead of the main house.

House plans can be purchased at the Standard or Deluxe options depending on whether you need plans just for building approval, or a fully detailed construction set with material specifications.

The California Red is a breed of domestic sheep developed in the United States. It is named because its lambs are born all red, and retain this color in their faces and limbs in to adulthood
